Which direction are you heading on your life’s journey? The path forward is the best direction to go, although we sometimes get stuck moving forward and hold on to the past; a trail that is left behind. But used to be’s don’t count anymore. It’s criticallyimperative for personal and professional development that we shiftget) out of neutral or reverse and begin living out our imagination and dreams, not our personal history.

Whether you decide to further develop your career path, make a career change, go back to school, or make any kind of personal or professional change it is essential you look forward, make a plan, and start taking the necessary steps to move forward in the direction of your goals and objectives. You can’t afford to lose any forward momentum because the minute you do, you start slipping back – into old behaviors, old thoughts, old habits, and old times.

Regrettably, many people spend most of their present time in the past. They get trapped living their life always looking back through their rearview mirror. Since you can’t move forward and back at the same time, your actions result in no movement at all. When you don’t move you stagnate – you regret the past and complain about the present.

You are left with no way to see the future. Your present circumstances, your previous failures, and your missed opportunities start to control your thinking process. When you restrict your ability to see the future, you extinguish your ability to dream. Without dreams you can’t envision a new way of being and, thus, your ability to set and achieve goals is quashed as well.

Standing still also happens when you fail to set any goals. If you don’t know what you desire, or you keep living your life according to the set expectations of others, you won’t develop any sense of what direction to take. Drifting like this has the same consequence as standing still.  The lack of purpose and forward thinking limits who you are and who you can be.

Avoid making this lethal mistake. You should welcome the road ahead and enjoy all that is possible in your life, despite what circumstances or setbacks may have happened to you, or what past conditioning may have influenced you. The past shapes who you are today, but, you have to keep the past in perspective so that it does not keep you from becoming all you are capable of being.

How you decide to live your life has everything to do with your chosen beliefs, through which you filter all of your experiences. Choose to be open to new and limitless possibilities of the future. Your ability to be truly happy, truly satisfied, and truly fulfilled in your professional and personal realms hinges on living your dream.

Follow the following self improvement tips from a personal development coach and start living your dream today:

  • First, decide to move forward with poise in the direction of your dreams!
  • Stop believing in what you might believe is true, and start believing in what you truly want!
  • Decide what is really important to you in your life now.
  • Get your past issues off your desk and file them in a safe place where you can refer to the lesson but not get caught up in the moment.
  • Align your internal beliefs with the person you dream of being.
  • Put your car in gear and step on the gas.

The past is a road that is left behind you. Don’t allow yourself be pulled backward along that trail or get stuck in one perspective. Your beliefs are what will determine your actions and the results you will create.  Believe in your dreams. It is only when you decide to move forward, or move on, that you can become the creator of your own personal journey.
